The Chronicles of Wormwood is one of my personal favourites.
The lead role is taken by the Anti-Christ: Danny Wormwood. Wormwood, is not your typical anti-christ, he has shunned the Devil and decided to live his life in a more normal way. Wormwood isn't almighty like you'd expect the anti-christ to be, but in fact can only cast one mircle a day. His friends Jimmy the talking rabbit and Jay a.k.a Jesus, are with him throughout the comic. Other vital characters are The Devil and The Pope. Other Historical figures make small appearances in the comic.
The story is basically that the Devil wants armageddon but Wormwood refuses to start it. So the Devil tries to find a way to force Wormwood to start armageddon. The story also shows some real life issues that make you like Wormwood more. It shows that Wormwood is more human in his judgement. There are a couple great twists that keep you interested.
The artwork is simply great, very graphic and full of detail. Violent or sexual scenes are quite graphic and seem to be made to try and shock the audience. The colours are not too bold which works well with the more realistic style for people.
Wormwood is a great comic, that adds humour to drama, and shocks you at every turn. What I loved about it was that Garth Ennis seemed to take his creative licience and run with it pushing the boundaries, which some comic writers need to do more of. For me it was an enjoyable read froom start to finish, and one that will stay at the top of my favourites for a while. Not to be read by the easily offended.
