Grendel Devil Quest carries on the Grendel series, referencing to Grendel Rose. Which could possibly be a wiser choice to start with as Grendel Rose is not really explained in this comic even though it is referenced.
Although Grendel Prime is the focus of the comic, the comic has no real main character as for most of the comic Grendel prime does not appear, he is only referenced towards. The other characters are descrided as: Rich Man, Poor Man, Beg'er Man, Theif, Doctor, Lawyer, Indigenous Cheif. Most of these characters focus is to find Grendel Prime. Grendel Prime himself only really comes into the comic near the end.
The storyline simply seems to be a race in the finding of Grendel Prime and Grendel prime trying to find Grendel Rose. Each character is given their own short story so even if you don't like a particular character, you wont see then for very long.
The artwork is good, with a pastel like effect to it. The colour scheme is very dark for the most part from start to finish. Some of the images may offend the homophobic, and these come right from the start but once you're past them you wont see any more in the comic.
The main appeal for this comic is it's complete strangeness. It would not really be recommended for a casual reader but you would not need to read anymore in the series to figure out what is going on. The gay theme can be kind of off putting but for interest it is still a good read.
