Jesus vs Vampires!?
The main character if you can't guess is Jesus but there are a few other important characters, with rebels, priests and vampires. The rebels, known as "New Dawn" are fighting against the vampires and the church. The vampires are split between the pure breeds and shades, the shades are the ones doing the most fighting against Jesus while the pure breeds scheme against him. The priests seem to have their own agenda, mainly trying to keep the people faithful whatever it takes.
The story unfolds following Jesus as he learns more about himself and what is really going on. Although the story is easy to follow, each section seems to be rushed to an end and you are pushed onto the next plot. The comic jumps between what is going on with each of the different characters to show you what is going on with the all around the same time but I feel this could have been done better. Overall, everything in the story is explained as to how and why it is happening, leaving nothing unanswered for the reader. The fighting sections are partly comical, with some randomness thrown in.
The artwork is good. The cover however does not show much of the style inside of the characters or the story and I personally would have preffered the cover style. Although the comic tries to be graphic at some battles, it does not quite reach the level of detail I would hope for. On the upside, from the lack of gore, comes a hot nude vampire chick, so you get a little something to catch your attention.
Loaded Bible is very much story driven, with a few twists that keep you interested. It was not quite the new look of Jesus I was hoping for, as he is still a champion of the people, kind hearted and trying to save everyone. From a glance I thought it would have been a more hard-core warrior Jesus. I thought it had high potential, that it didn't quite achieve. A shame, but still an interesting read.
